bargain beauty buys : wilko dry shampoo

Everyone loves a good bargain, right? Whether it's getting some sort of discount at your favourite place to eat or finding a beaut item of clothing in a charity shop, you just can't complain. I've decided to start doing a series of posts on the things I buy that I reckon are a bargain and hopefully you might just see a thing or two that you'd like to try for yourself.

First on the old agenda is something that I was recommended by my dad's girlfriend. She told me it's the best type of this product that she'd ever used so I picked it up one day on a whim and I've never looked back. What I'm talking about is Wilko's own brand dry shampoo. Yep, really. I've always thought that in the world of dry shampoo it was either Batiste or go home, which puzzled me as Batiste never really seemed to do much for my hair. To the point where I convinced myself that I must be using it incorrectly because everyone else seems to rave about it. I'm not saying it's a rubbish product, of course, but it just personally didn't do anything for me. *shrugs*

So, back to Wilko's. These marvellous 200ml cans of spray are 95p each (!!!). Which is riduculous for how good I find this product. Ridiculous, but fantastic. I tend to stock up whenever I visit one of the stores just incase they ever decide to discontinue it. (Please don't Wilko, I beg you.) There are a few different types of the dry shampoo including: normal, fragranced, volume and brunette. My personal favourite is the volume one with fragranced in a close second. Even though the spray on both is white it blends in perfectly and just leaves my hair feeling so clean and refreshed. My hair is stupidly fine and tends to become greasy in no time at all meaning I used to wash it every day. Bad Kate, I know. However with this dry shampoo I can now easily miss a day and sometimes even two which is basically unknown for me. I also feel like my hair is slowly getting into better condition now I'm not over-washing it.

For the little amount of 95p I reckon you should give one of these a go and see if you're as impressed as me!

the sunday post : happy things #1

I've seen lots of bloggers writing Sunday posts and thought I'd jump on the bandwagon as they're always lovely little reads. Mine are going to be based on things that have made me happy during the week. Pretty simple really!

First and foremost this week there was a pretty huge event. I became a big sister again! At 4:51am on Thursday 21st January my beautiful little sister Mica Sue was born. She is absolutely gorgeous and I'm besotted with her. It definitely feels strange being a sister again at 24 because most people I know that are my age are now having kids themselves. I definitely don't feel ready for that, if I ever even will, so this is kind of a bonus for me. It means I get to see all the cute baby stuff and watch this beautiful little girl grow up but I don't have any of the scary responsibilities. I really hope I can be a good  sister and role model for this little one.

This week I also decided to treat myself to a new camera. I'd been trying to pick which model to go with for weeks and weeks and in the end I chose the Canon 100D. After reading lots of reviews it looked like a great starter DSLR. I'm no pro photographer at all so I'm hoping I can slowly build my skills up. It's also really compact so great for taking out and about which was something I wanted. I won't ramble on too much right now though as I'm hoping to write a post about it sometime soon!

We've spent some time with Joel's sister, brother-in-law and their kids and it makes me grateful that he has such a lovely family. You hear stories of nightmare in-laws but all of Joel's family are amazing and have been nothing but loving towards me and it just makes me so happy.

What has made you smile this week?

first impressions : soap & glory 'soaper star' gift set

Despite them probably being one of the most popular beauty brands around, I've not really tried many of Soap & Glory's products. In fact I think the only one I've ever owned is Hand Food which impressed me so you'd think I'd have branched into some of the other items. Not that it matters now though as I received the rather generous SOAPER STAR gift set for Christmas which has given me an amazing selection to try out. I don't feel like I've used any of them quite enough to give a full review yet so thought I'd give my first impressions instead.

The SOAPER STAR gift set contains a CLEAN ON ME shower gel 500ml, THE SCRUB OF YOUR LIFE body buffer 200ml, THE RIGHTEOUS BUTTER body butter 200ml, HEEL GENIUS foot cream 50ml, HAND FOOD hand cream 50ml, a body polisher and even a pair of fluffy socks!

I'll start with my favourite thing out of the ones I've used so far: THE SCRUB OF YOUR LIFE body buffer which is, quite frankly, blooming amazing. I've used it twice now when showering and it leaves your skin SO soft it's ridiculous. There aren't many things better than skin that feels soft, refreshed and extra squeaky clean. I think I'll probably stick to using this a couple of times a week as I've never been sure on how many times you're supposed to use a body scrub in all honesty. Along with this I've also been using the CLEAN ON ME shower gel daily (partnered with the body polisher of course!) which is just as lovely. My favourite thing about this one is the pump meaning you can get the perfect amount of product. I also love how all of these products have the same signature S&G "Pink" fruity scent because it means you don't have to worry about getting a mismatch of smells all over you. I was a bit worried that it might become overpowering but I personally find that they leave a subtle scent that lasts all day, even if you've ended up using two or three products.

Next up is THE RIGHTEOUS BUTTER body butter which I've tried once after a shower so far. I'm terribly lazy when it comes to moisturising my body so usually prefer the spray-on type that you can get. Again this product smells gorgeous and it sank into my skin very quickly. I probably will use it again in future as it'd be a shame for it to go to waste but I think I'll still stick to my personal preference of a spray moisturiser purely for my own convenience. As I mentioned near the start of this post I've used and liked the HAND FOOD hand cream in the past and I'm still liking it this time round. The size of the tube in this gift set is perfect for popping into your handbag incase your hands need a bit of TLC when you're out and about. The only product I'm yet to use is the HEEL GENIUS foot cream. I think what I'm going to do one night soon is slather a good amount on my little feet then pop on the fluffy socks and leave them to bask in the goodness overnight. I'm not sure if that's what the socks are intended for but hey, it's as good a purpose as any!

I think this is the perfect gift set as it's got a fabulous mix of products. It could make a great starter set for someone who's been wanting to try out this brand, or even just a great present for someone who is already a bit of a Soap & Glory fanatic!

Have you tried any Soap & Glory products? Which are your favourites?

review : topshop lipstick in 'innocent'

I've always been a big fan of Topshop's make up range with their lipstick being at the top of my favourites list. At £8 a lippy I think they're pretty affordable and certainly worth it.

The shade I'm reviewing today is Innocent and it certainly doesn't let the side down. Innocent is quite a pale pink but still gives a lovely pop of colour, which makes it very versatile for day or night use in my opinion. It has a very creamy texture and is moisturising on your lips so doesn't leave them feeling dry. I prefer a matte lipstick so wasn't sure if I'd be 100% keen on this one what with it being slightly glossy, but I can honestly say that it has won me over and I might even be slightly converted. I was also very glad to get this shade in the limited edition rose gold packaging that Topshop released, it just makes it all that bit more elegant looking!

The only negative thing I can really think of is that it's not the longest lasting shade of lipstick (which is strange as my other Topshop lipsticks last ages) and I have to reapply after a couple of hours which is a slight annoyance.

Results - 4/5
Price - 4/5
Packaging - 5/5
Overall - 4/5
Would I repurchase? Yes.

Have you tried anything from Topshop's make up range?

a trip to: forest holidays

Back in September (which was four months ago yet feels like five minutes ago!) Joel and I went on holiday to North Yorkshire. We've only ever stayed at places for the weekend before so it was nice to get away from our usual lives for a little bit longer this time. We stayed in the most beautiful cabin with a company called Forest Holidays at their Keldy site and it's safe to say that we didn't want to go back home by the time our holiday was over.

wishlist #4 : urban outfitters home

Record Player  //  Cat Mug  //  5-Hook Towel Rail  //  Bar Cart  //  Fox Cushion  //  Table Lamp

Since we moved into our new house in December I've become obsessed (even more so than usual) with pretty interiors and homewares. We were quite lucky with our house as the person who sold it had given it some renovations and updated it to quite a modern look. At the moment it's very beige and magnolia throughout which I know is some people's worst nightmare, but it's something I'm happy with until we decide what we want to go for in each room.

I've been browsing so many sites for some inspiration and ideas but I think Urban Outfitters have drawn me in the most. They have some really unusual pieces, but also some things that have been on trend recently too such as rose gold (I don't care if it's getting old now, I still love it!) and pastels. The above are some of my favourite bits and bobs. I am seriously in love with the bar cart. If I had a spare £200 to throw away I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but we have more important things to buy first! Maybe one day.. a girl can dream.

Where are your favourite places to buy things for your home?

hello 2016

Okay, I know you're probably fed up of reading these resolutions posts but one more little one won't hurt, right?

2015 was a horrible year for me for the most part. I lost a lot of dear family members, including my amazing Grandpa, who I miss so much. I just feel like I had dark clouds hanging over me most of the time, with a few rays of light shining through. The best of that light was when we bought our first little house. Us.. home owners! It still doesn't feel real now even though we've been in the house for a month. I'm planning to give you all a little tour at some point in the future, I just can't quite decide whether to do the whole house in one post or split it up into rooms.

Anyway, (before I start rambling on about all of the pretty things I want to purchase for the house) if there's one thing that last year has taught me it's that I need to start living my life because anything could happen at any time. I've let my anxiety stop me from doing pretty much everything for the past 7 years (!!!) but now that I feel like I'm starting to conquer it it's time to start enjoying my life. So, with that in mind, here are a few things I'd quite like to achieve at some point this year:

  • Travel abroad - That's right, I've never left the UK in my life. I feel a little embarrassed about it for some reason, but after this year I won't be. My Grandpa would always tell me that I should see the world while I was young with no responsibilities. I'm so sorry that he didn't get to see me achieve it, but hopefully I can make him proud now. Joel and I have already decided that our first destination is going to be a few days in Amsterdam so if anyone has any recommendations for hotels/places to eat/things to do I'm all ears!

  • Blog regularly - I've always been a very sparodical blogger so I want to start trying to become organised and post on a more regular basis. It's something that I really enjoy so I need to give myself a kick up the bum and keep on top of it.

  • Attend a blogging event/meet other bloggers - On the back of the last goal, I'd LOVE to attend an event at some point and meet some lovely fellow bloggers. This will be pretty scary because I'm such a shy little thing but I know it'll do my confidence wonders.

  • Become a healthier person - I'm not going lie to you, I'm one of the laziest potatoes that you'll ever meet. I really need to start working out regularly, eating more healthily and taking care of my mental health instead of letting things build up until I'm ready to explode aka have a massive cry to poor old Joel.

  • Take more photographs - I've been looking at old family photos a lot recently and the thought of not having many memories to look back on makes me sad so I definitely intend on taking my camera out with me on every trip/occasion, or even just snapping more photos on my phone.

Do you have any goals and aims for this year?
