instagram : our week off

Isn't annual leave just marvellous? We had a week off work recently and oh boy was it needed! Here's some of the things that what we got up to:

The first thing I did after leaving work on the Friday was head straight to Tesco to buy donuts. Is there any better way to celebrate ten days of doing whatever you want? Not in my books.

On Monday my lovely mum and I decided to have a girly day out at Meadowhall which included a spot of shopping and then some lunch. Coal Grill and Bar has always been a favourite of ours. There's such a cool and chilled atmosphere in there, and the food is ridiculously tasty. Oh and how can I forget their huge menu of amazing cocktails!? (Although I had to stick to pepsi on this occasion as I was driving. Boo.) I only fancied something simple and this smoked ham and cheese panini was the perfect choice.

Next up on Tuesday was a trip to the cinema. Joel and I decided to give Get Hard a try. I've always been a big fan of Will Ferrell and the same for Joel with Kevin Hart. I'm not gonna lie though, it's not the best film I've ever seen. There were a few giggles in parts but on the whole I wasn't really into it. Not that I minded too much because I was more than happy to sip away my ice blast. I think they're possibly my favourite thing about going to the cinema!

After a lazy day on Wednesday (and a massive binge-fest of American Horror Story which is our new found favourite show) we headed off to Leeds on Thursday. I absolutely love Leeds for a day out every now and again. There's so many great places to eat, as many shops as you could wish for including high street, designer and vintage, and I think it's just a really friendly city. If there's one place I've been dying to visit for ages it's Five Guys and I can safely say I wasn't disappointed! It's easily the nicest burger I've ever eaten. To be honest the drinks machine alone was worth the visit and if I ever win the lottery I will definitely be buying one of those bad boys. (Hello peach flavoured coke/tango/sprite/etc.) I can't say I shopped until I dropped but I did treat myself to a couple of new dresses and a lipstick (which I've written a post about here). Joel also bought me my first Tsum Tsum because he knows I want to start collecting them. He did good and got me my favourite: Pluto!

Not much exciting happened for the next few days. I did the food shopping, cleaned the flat, went to the gym.. and maybe watched too many more episodes of AHS. The weather turned out absolutely lovely on Sunday so we couldn't just stay cooped up in the flat all day. We live in such a beautiful little country and yet couldn't think of a single thing to do! Eventually we decided on giving the Yorkshire Wildlife Park a try as a few people we know had recommended it in the past. I've always had very mixed views on wildlife parks/zoos/etc. I'm a big animal lover and the thought of them being stuck in small spaces instead of being out in the wild has never felt right, but at the same time a lot of them are becoming endangered and I wonder if it's maybe better for them to be somewhere safe. The Yorkshire Wildlife Park did put my mind at ease when we got there as the animals all seemed to have lots of open space and were obviously well cared for. The rangers throughout the park seemed extremely experienced and clearly have lots of passions for the animals that they look after.

Our next week off isn't until the end of August when we go away for our little cabin retreat (eeeek!) but no doubt we'll have a few long weekends and days out inbetween. I can't wait!
